Vetted Rifle Members and Guests Practice @600yd Steel – Safe Fun/ Practice/Coaching/Vetting Opportunity – Club Members and Guests

April 13 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm EDT

$15

Open Practice at 600 Yds (steel)

FEE: $15 – To support ongoing range operations

As ALWAYS keep an eye on the weather and the Rifle Calendar for cancellations.

Shooting this time of year depends on the weather, serious weather such as moderate to heavy snow, ice storms or heavy rain will likely cause these to be cancelled so keep an Eye to the Sky and the Calendar! There is automatically a weather date – the next day.  Committee Members help out when they can after any storms to keep the Pit area and the 500 yard line clean down to the grass, and of course NEW CLUB MEMBERS wanting hours are encouraged to lend a hand.

10:00 AM Setup – Round Count is your choice.  We expect some impromptu fun mini-matches and some challenge fun Matches. Still for non-competition shooters we’ll help you through it. This event is open ONLY for members and guests. Only for rifles suitable for 600yd accurate shooting.

From Mid-Nov till to April muzzle brakes are allowed – Silencers are welcome – bring them if you have them.

We have a very skilled group of shooters, Some are State and Regional Champions, experienced Wind Coaches, National and International Competitors who, while there to practice, are more importantly ready to provide knowledge, experience and coaching to build your shooting skills or to help any shooter who would like any kind of assistance.

This is a good opportunity for Club Members who wish to be vetted to do so with highly qualified support.

This is a great opportunity for new members or prospective members interested in Rifle to get acquainted with Mid Range shooting and also accomplish 500/600yd Range qualification.

If you are not vetted for 500/600 range use, but wish to be, you should be prepared as follows:

  1. Bring the specific rifle(s) for which you wish to be vetted.
  2. Have a 100-yd or 200-yd zero already set on that rifle.
  3. Know how to make informed elevation adjustments on the attached scope.
  4. Have elevation tables for the specific ammunition you will be using (if using handload, an equivalent factory table is recommended).
  5. Have a stable front and rear rest for use at these yardages (sling shooters should be equally prepared).
  6. Have a shooting mat, tarp or other ground covering.
  7. Per safety rules at all ranges, have ear an eye protection, and an empty chamber indicator.

You should plan to arrive at the designated setup time, inform the event coordinator that you wish to be vetted and be prepared assist with target setup.  Bring your rifle, shooting mat, bipod, bags and ammo and especially your dope table.

If you have any questions about being prepared for vetting, please send your inquiry to the committee email address: sfga.rifle@gmail.com

Bring a guest (but don’t forget to have them sign the annual release). Club Members, Members in the Application Process and Guests can be provided assistance in sighting in their rifle (best effort) and joining the others on the 600yd Range.

As always, safety is paramount.  Remember your Eyes and Ears as well as your empty chamber indicator. RSOs, Coaches with a broad base of knowledge and a great group of people will be there to provide assistance and coaching to anyone who asks.
