There is automatically a weather date – the next day.  Committee Members help out when they can after any storms to keep the Pit area and the 600 yard line clean down to the grass\, and of course NEW CLUB MEMBERS wanting hours are encouraged to lend a hand. \nOpen Rifle Practice can be pair fired (optional) or individually fired at @600yds. 10:00 AM Setup – Round Count is your choice.  We expect some impromptu fun mini-matches and some challenge fun Matches. Still for non-competition shooters we’ll help you through it. The match begins at 1300 (1 PM) \nPLACE: Scarborough Fish & Game Assn.\, Inc.\, 21 Fish & Game Lane\, Scarborough Maine. Located across the road from the old Beech Ridge Speedway\, just before or just after the large parking lot across from the Speedway depending on the direction you are coming from. \nENTRIES: Limited to 60. Bayonets are optional\, but gloves are recommended. \nTARGETS: Human silhouettes with no sighters. \nPOSITIONS: Any (safe) position (of the standard four positions: prone\, offhand\, sitting or kneeling) may be used at all firing positions. Take into consideration that it will be mid-April and the ground maybe wet. Shelter halves will be available to use as mats or you may bring your own or other improvised mat. \nTIME: A time limit of 4 minutes @300 yds\, 3 minutes @200 yds and 2 minutes @100yds. \n  \n5 ROUND RULE: if a shooter cannot get on target paper after 5 misses; he/she will be disqualified at that distance of fire and asked to cease participation at that distance. \nAwards: The winners will be mailed commemorative Plates. DESCRIPTION:Open Rifle Practice @600yds – Practice / Coaching/Vetting Opportunity – Club Members and Guests as well as Prospective Members – Open to the Public\n\nSeptember 26\, 2026 @ 09:00 am – 2:00 pm EST Shooting starts as a group at 09:00 am and will end when onsite shooters are done.\n$20 \n\n\n\nOpen Practice at 600 Yds (Some E-target depending on turnout & steel) \nFEE: $20 – To support ongoing range operations \nAs ALWAYS keep an eye on the weather and the Rifle Calendar for cancellations. \nShooting this time of year depends on the weather\, serious weather such as moderate to heavy snow or ice storms will likely cause these to be cancelled so keep an Eye to the Sky and the Calendar! There is automatically a weather date – the next day.  Committee Members help out when they can after any storms to keep the Pit area and the 600 yard line clean down to the grass\, and of course NEW CLUB MEMBERS wanting hours are encouraged to lend a hand. \nOpen Rifle Practice can be pair fired (optional) or individually fired at @600yds. 09:00 AM Setup – Round Count is your choice.  We expect some impromptu fun mini-matches and some challenge fun Matches. Still for non-competition shooters we’ll help you through it. This event is Open to the Public but only for rifles suitable for 600yd accurate shooting.. \nFrom Mid-Nov till to April muzzle brakes are allowed – Silencers are welcome – bring them if you have them. \nWe have a very skilled group of shooters\, State and Regional Champions along with National as well as International shooting experience. Don’t hesitate to join us and get some free coaching and advice while there to shoot\, our Riffle Committee members are ready to share knowledge\, experience and coaching to build your shooting skills or to help any shooter who would like any kind of assistance. \nThis is a good opportunity for Club Members who wish to be vetted to do so with highly qualified support. \nThis is a great opportunity for new members or prospective members interested in Rifle to get acquainted with Rifle Shooting at Scarborough Fish & Game and also accomplish 500/600yd Range qualification. \nIf you are not vetted for 500/600 range use\, but wish to be\, you should be prepared as follows: \n\nBring the specific rifle(s) for which you wish to be vetted.\nHave a 100-yd or 200-yd zero already set on that rifle.\nKnow how to make informed elevation adjustments on the attached scope.\nHave elevation tables for the specific ammunition you will be using (if using handload\, an equivalent factory table is recommended).\nHave a stable front and rear rest for use at these yardages (sling shooters should be equally prepared).\nHave a shooting mat\, tarp or other ground covering.\nPer safety rules at all ranges\, have ear an eye protection\, and an empty chamber indicator.\n\nKnowledge of the electronic targeting system and target setup is not required.  You should plan to arrive at the designated setup time\, inform the event coordinator that you wish to be vetted and be prepared assist with target setup.  A smart phone or tablet is recommended.  If you do not have one\, please inform that event coordinator when you arrive so we can provide you a loaner. \nIf you have any questions about being prepared for vetting\, please send your inquiry to the committee email address: sfga.rifle@gmail.com \nBring a friend or guest (don’t forget to have them sign their release).
